Craters of the Moon and Arco

That's right, it's ours. . .

A local tradition going back to the 1920s in Arco, ID. The graduating class paints their number on the mountain top. The picture doesn't show it but these are really high and dangerous cliff faces on the top of the local mountain.

There are several big atomic research facilities in the deserts south of town and everything is "atomic". The local cafe has an atomic burger (which I ate) and there is an atomic oil change (not so sure that is a good thing)

Craters of the Moon National Monument is a truly weird place. If you ever have the opportunity, it is worth an afternoon. (bring water and hats!)

That thing behind me is the conning tower of a nuclear submarine named for the town. Unbelievably, the designation is 666 which you may know is the biblical number of the devil. I was struck by how this was just fine in the 1960s when the sub was commissioned, but there is no way in hell that you could do that in our politically correct world today.

Clowning around.

We baby sat this dog for our neighbors in the next unit while her owners went for supper at the cafe.
